BICYCLE COUNTING

Nowadays its easier than ever to see pro-bicycle demonstrations organized by groups such as Critical Mass that unite thousands of cyclists at strategic points around the city. In order to measure the pulse of these activities, Ciudad Emergente implements traffic counting systems using Arduino controllers and pressure sensors in public spaces.

These calculations help gather valuable measurements and urban indicators that interested decision-makers can use to understand the scope of citizen initiatives that promote non-motorized transportation alternatives. All gathered data is then made available through online platforms in an easily accessible and understandable format.

This tactic is based on the traffic counter TrafficCom, developed by Ted Ulrich and Aurash Khawarzad.

This tool has been implemented in:
Cicletada (first Tuesday of each month), Masa Crítica.
