1. Mediciones de vida pública

We wanted to know how many pedestrians and cyclists passed through the center of Danlí during one day. For this, a count of people, bicycles, motorcycles and automobiles was carried out using the methodology developed by Jan Gehl.

At the measurement points where the streets were completely closed to cars, the number of pedestrians increased from 5,856 to 8,550 pedestrians per day. In those points where the street was shared with other means of mobilization, the number of pedestrians increased slightly from 5,604 to 5,970, while the other means of mobilization decreased from 3702 to 2,274 in the case of cars, from 576 to 462 for cars. bicycles and from 1698 to 966 for motorcyclists.

The shared streets encouraged the development of cultural activities, going from one record in the first measurement to 42 records in the second measurement. Similarly, the number of children playing in the streets increased.

Shared streets gives the city back to the people and promotes the development of recreational and cultural activities in public spaces!

Institutional strengthening and governance

With the purpose of strengthening the work carried out by the Danlidense Development Committee, in the social, economic and cultural development of Danlí, institutional strengthening workshops were held. The workshops made it possible to summon new members for Codande at the same time that it was a space for evaluating the work carried out to date, and for planning, where one of the themes was the sustainability of shared streets.
