Danlí, known as the city of hills and culture, is located just 98 kilometers from the capital, Tegucigalpa, and has an estimated population of 81,499 inhabitants (INE, 2015). Its historic center, considered national heritage, has lost attractiveness and accessibility due, in part, to the large number of motorized vehicles that enter the area daily (Urban Development Plan of the city of Danlí, 2011), which could be a dangerous environment for the pedestrian. Added to the urban problems identified are high levels of air and noise pollution that negatively impact people's quality of life (FHIS, 2011).
To date, the city does not have a massive accessibility strategy, nor plans to regulate and manage parking, as well as promote the use of non-motorized modes of transport, which help in any way to reduce the use of private vehicles in downtown areas.
