The Environmental Education Center Master Plan
The Master Plan for the Environmental Education Center is a cornerstone in transforming the recovered dumpsite in Quilicura. Designed by Ciudad Emergente with a participatory approach, this project aims to turn the space into a hub for environmental education, community engagement, and sustainable practices.
Key Features of the Master Plan:
Educational Facilities: Classrooms, workshops, and labs for environmental education programs.
Recreational Spaces: Parks, play areas, and sports facilities.
Community Gardens: Promoting urban gardening and food production.
Environmental Exhibits: Interactive spaces showcasing the local ecosystem and environmental challenges.
Sustainability: Green infrastructure, renewable energy, and water conservation systems.
With an estimated investment of $4.5 million, the Master Plan integrates multifunctional and sustainable elements aligned with the aspirations of the local community, whose input was vital in shaping the design. This approach strengthens a sense of ownership and commitment, ensuring long-term success and sustainability.
The project stands out as a testament to the transformative power of participatory community initiatives, offering a replicable model for other communities facing environmental challenges. Thanks to the support of partners like Google, the Municipality of Quilicura, and Universidad Finis Terrae, Quilicura Clean and Safe is established as a symbol of collaboration and positive change.
