Involúcrate (Get involved)

Citizen activation and self-management for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Place
Múltiples comunas, Chile

Year
2023 - 2024

Objectives

  • Foster local self-management: Drive community-born initiatives to solve problems within their immediate environment.

  • Localize the SDGs: Translate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into concrete, territorial actions across Chile.

  • Combat social isolation: Create bridges of collaboration in contexts of distancing (such as during the health crisis), connecting the "will to act" with real-world projects.

  • Highlight citizen impact: Provide a showcase for self-managed projects to gain the recognition and support they need to scale.

Methodology

Involúcrate operates as a multi-stakeholder articulation platform based on:

  1. Open Call: Inviting leaders and organizations to register their initiatives through a system of reliable and verifiable information.

  2. Impact Mapping: Categorizing projects according to the 17 SDGs, identifying which goals are being driven by citizens (climate action, gender equality, sustainable cities, etc.).

  3. Collaboration Network: Linking projects with potential collaborators, volunteers, or citizens interested in participating, breaking down the "spectator" barrier.

Clients / Partners

  • Driven by: Ciudad Emergente.

  • Territory: National Scope (Chile).

  • Actors: Community organizations, neighborhood councils, local collectives, and active citizens.

Results & Impact

  • From Spectators to Protagonists: Mobilizing communities toward an active role in solving global challenges from a local scale.

  • Social Innovation Repository: Consolidating a database of citizen initiatives that serve as examples of resilience and creativity in times of crisis.

  • Strengthening the Social Fabric: Creating a mutual support network that transcends physical distancing, strengthening civic culture and partnership across the country.

Conclusions

Involúcrate demonstrates that a crisis is also an opportunity for strategic solidarity. By aligning local initiatives with the Sustainable Development Goals, Ciudad Emergente ensures that individual and community efforts contribute to a global target. This project reaffirms that community building is the most powerful tool for achieving sustainable, just, and participatory development, where every initiative—no matter how small—counts toward changing the world.
